Energy Visions Prize
Featuring America's Clean Energy Innovators

Winners

Founders and judges of the ACSF Energy Visions Prize were delighted to meet the winners on February 28, 2013, at the Hotel Monaco in Washington, DC. The best part of giving a prize is knowing it will have an impact. Here’s what the grand prize winners each aim to do with their awards of $40,000.

First Prize – Short Video Category

Sorkin

Roger Sorkin, Producer/Director of The Burden: Fossil Fuel, the Military and National Security

“The prize will help us complete our documentary, The Burden, which will be used as the anchor for a publicity campaign to end fossil fuel dependence in the name of national security and geopolitical stability.”

“Military leaders have identified oil dependence as the greatest long-term threat to national security — not just dependence on foreign sources, but on all oil, period. The film presents the serious consequences of maintaining an untenable status quo, while illuminating the economic opportunities offered by a renewable energy economy, all in the name of saving American lives and tax dollars.”

The Burden will screen for general audiences at festivals, in theaters, on television, and at special events, but it is specifically intended to reach those viewers with the greatest capacity to make a difference: self-described economic and national security conservatives.”

“The Burden will inform citizens in a position to put pressure on their representatives to do what is best for the country.”

orenstein

Nick Orenstein and Michael Ditmore of Novim, creators of Just Science

“To us, the Energy Visions prize recognizes our goal of reaching a worldwide audience with the educational message that climate change is real and easily seen by everybody. It’s an honor to receive such an award.”

“Recognition by the ACSF will provide Just Science with fresh exposure to a public audience more concerned with the climate than ever before. It rejuvenates our mission to think big and make a positive global impact.”

“Novim plans to use the prize money to update Just Science and to adapt it for upcoming projects the group is sponsoring. I [Nick Orenstein] plan to use my share to buy equipment for my current graduate research on resource utilization in space.”

First prize – Featured Film and Documentary Category

Kallenberg

Gregory Kallenberg, Producer/Director of Rational Middle Energy Series (pictured with Chris Lyon, Editor/Production Manager)

“Our primary focus with the funds afforded by this generous prize is to continue outreach to the nation to inform citizens of the opportunities and challenges ahead of us concerning the energy future by creating new content, extending our online presence, and continuing our efforts to engage audiences with the goals of creating a sensible, sustainable and environmentally responsible energy future.”

The Rational Middle’s goal is to bring people together to have a civil, solutions-based discussion about the energy future. These funds allow us to continue to grow the Rational Middle Movement and to bring our message to our nation’s communities, corporations and governments.”
